Bio

Prior to Bob Kupczyk’s teenage years his first encounter with music came via a cheap guitar he acquired. He started figuring out melodies by ear with only one string on the said guitar. In his teenage years at Lafayette high school Bob played trombone in the school band and also played rock music on electric bass at the school's assemblies with the likes of the Catanzaro brothers, Steve Camilleri, and various other aspiring musicians. This was a great way for Bob to cut his musical teeth, so to speak with the realization that music was to be his true passion which he would pursue still to this day.

After high school Bob played bass in the popular Buffalo band “AboutTime”. This band had various versions during his tenure. After the band fizzled another opportunity arose in which Bob would switch to guitar.

Bob's first foray with the Bleeding Hearts started in 1990. He aced his audition and became the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the band. Rounding out the new lineup with founding members David Lloyd and Bryan Berhalter. Bob’s blue-collar work ethic, discipline, determination and dead- on renditions of the songs made him an integral addition to the group. After Berhalter’s exit in 1994 Nino Catanzaro took his place on bass. In Late 1997 Bob switched to bass and Nino took over guitar duties. The band had much success during this time, Winning 5 Buffalo Music Awards. However, with the stringent and hectic schedule of the Bleeding Hearts and trying to finish college and execute work/life balance Bob decided to leave the group in 1998. Exhausted and burned out he took some time off to rethink his musical career.

After some time off to recharge the batteries Bob dove back into the music scene. From 1998 through 2023 Bob has played either guitar or bass with the following groups: Da’loris, This is Now, Dick Whiskey, The Distillery Boys, the Scratchy Amps, Bob Fera and the Captain Morals, Dead Flowers, All or Nothin', and Beatles with A twist.

Bob has a pretty Impressive and illustrious recording career to his credit, playing on the following releases: Bleeding Hearts- EP (cassette& digital release), Da’loris-Evolution (CD), This is Now-Hear & Now (CD), and Bob Fera and the Captain Morals- (2 EP’S) - 4 songs about people and extended play.
Bob enjoys and loves classical music. He composed a few piano pieces while at Buffalo State College, including a composition that he wrote for his first wife that was performed at their wedding. Bob is also big jazz fan. He's a multi- instrumentalist, he plays the following instruments: electric & acoustic guitar, electric bass, keyboards, drums, trombone. He took guitar lessons at Elmwood Music most notably from Doug Yeomans. Bob studied Electric Bass guitar at Buffalo State College with Greg Piontek and Rodney Appleby. Has also taken drum lessons with Jarrod Rose.

In a wild twist of fate in 2018 Bob came full circle and rejoined the Bleeding Hearts, on bass and vocals keyboards and plays drums on a handful of songs (as the band Members switch instruments throughout the night). This has been a blessing for the band and its fan base on so many levels, to have him back in the fold is pricless. He is also still an active member of Dead Flowers & All or Nothin'.
